Bottleworks District puts a former Coca-Cola bottling complex to work as a downtown Indianapolis gathering place, with restaurants, shops, a hotel and a movie theater threaded through its restored industrial buildings. The architecture is part of the draw: visitors repeatedly single out the Art Deco character alongside the range of places to eat and drink.
The Garage anchors the dining experience with more than 30,000 square feet of food and retail space spread across two original garage buildings. Terra-cotta facades frame large roll-up doors that allow an open-air setting. Diners often mention the sheer number of choices; this is a place to make a circuit before settling on a meal rather than head straight for a single dining room.
The evening needn’t end at the food hall. Pins Mechanical pairs craft beer and classic cocktails with duckpin bowling and more than 40 pinball machines. Living Room Theater has eight screens, a European-style cafe and lounge, and a program that includes independent and international films. For an overnight stay, the 139-room Bottleworks Hotel occupies the top two floors of the historic bottling works administration building.
Bottleworks District is at 850 Massachusetts Ave., Suite 190, in the North Mass Ave corridor. The district itself is open 24 hours daily; that listing applies to the complex, not round-the-clock food or bar service.
