Rolli

Rolli serves playful, sauce-driven sushi at The Garage in downtown Indianapolis, with specialty rolls priced from $8 to $10. Start with the Mango Tango’s tempura shrimp and pickled mango, or try Sunny in Peru for ahi tuna with aji amarillo mayo and roasted poblano.

Rolli
Rolli

Rolli takes sushi in a deliberately nontraditional direction: pickled fruit, chili-spiked mayonnaise and tempura crunch shape the specialty-roll menu. This stall at The Garage keeps the format casual and relatively inexpensive, with straightforward tuna and salmon rolls alongside more elaborate combinations. Diners repeatedly mention friendly staff, though opinions on freshness and execution are mixed.

The $8.50 Mango Tango pairs tempura shrimp with sweet Thai chili sauce, avocado, pickled mango and yuzu tobiko. Sunny in Peru, at $10, combines ahi tuna with scratch-made aji amarillo mayo, roasted poblano, white onion and cilantro. For a fried roll, the $8 Tickled Pink wraps krab and avocado in tempura, then adds Rolli sauce, pickled mango and green onion.

Vegetarian choices get the same attention to contrasting ingredients. Yum Yum Yam combines tempura-fried sweet potato, avocado and pickled beets; Zesty Shrooms features shiitakes marinated in yuzu kosho vinaigrette, sesame garlic crunch and togarashi. Both cost $10. The Combo Box adds a free side—seaweed salad, tempura shrimp or yuzu shiitake—to an order of two or three rolls.

Rolli is at 906 Carrollton Avenue, with outdoor seating, takeout, delivery and online ordering. It opens daily at 11 a.m., closing at 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 8 p.m. Sunday.
