Beer sets the agenda at The Tap in Bloomington. The brewery and craft beer bar makes its own beers in-house, rotates drafts from craft and import breweries, and lists more than 400 bottled beers from around the world. Wine comes on tap, too; this is a beer-and-wine bar rather than a cocktail stop.
The food follows a broad pub format, with burgers, tacos, sandwiches and appetizers appearing in diners’ accounts. Positive mentions include a turkey sandwich with cranberry sauce and a crispy chicken sandwich with fries. The restaurant’s November burger feature, Turkey Jam, shows its more elaborate side: a turkey patty with pepper jack, jalapeño cranberry jam, bacon, mixed greens and crispy onions.
Diners repeatedly point to the breadth of the beer selection and the upbeat atmosphere. TVs, live music and outdoor seating give groups several ways to settle in, while reviews describe a crowd spanning college students and older diners. Food and service feedback is more mixed than the enthusiasm for the beer list.
The Tap is at 101 N College Avenue, with moderate pricing and lunch and dinner service. It opens daily at 11 a.m., closing at 11 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday, midnight Thursday and 1 a.m. Friday and Saturday. Takeout and delivery are offered; reservations are not.
