Helm Coffee is finally opening this weekend. Helm is an LGBTQ+ women-owned coffee roaster dedicated to crafting outstanding specialty coffee. Helm shared the Instagram message below regarding their opening:
“HELM IS OPENING!!
It’s finally time! We started roasting months ago but have been waiting (very impatiently) for construction to be done in our roastery in Garfield Park. And now – IT’S READY!
Join us on Saturday, Sept. 10 for our Opening Day! Before you block your entire day, here’s some things you should know:
- Helm is a radically inclusive space. And we’re the gayest. So if any of that gives you pause, please keep walking.
- We are a coffee roastery that serves coffee (not a traditional coffee shop). What that means: We are first and foremost a coffee *roaster* We are focused on roasting delicious specialty coffee and will serve it up in pour overs, batch brew (via the @groundcontrl) cold brew, etc…. But, we won’t be regularly serving up lattes and cortados…yet.
- There’s more than coffee. Not a coffee person? We think you’re nuts but you can come anyway ;). We will also be stocked with Jen’s ice cream @jenisicecreams (we always wanted an excuse to buy a whole freezer full of ice cream), pastries from Leviathan, and sparkling tea from Sound.
- We’re trying to do some good. As part of our commitment to @mamasatthehelm, we’re partnering with @thelittletimmyproject for a donation drive. Show up between 10-12 and bring all the baby things to donate. Or, if you’re looking for a sweet new t-shirt, buy one of ours and wear it proudly knowing that all profits go to @indianayouthgroup_iyg and @acluindiana.
Y’all – this is our DREAM COME TRUE so please show up and celebrate with us!”
