INDIANAPOLIS — Indy based cocktail company and distillery, Hi & Mighty, has won 2 medals at the prestigious San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Hi & Mighty entered its recently released “Twin Gin” spirits including Big Fuss Savory Gin and Big Heart Floral Gin, both of which are produced in its facility at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.
The competition is the largest of its kind in the world, seeing entrants from major brands across the globe. Hi & Mighty edged out notable names in the gin category such as Hendrick’s, Beefeater, and Aviation.
Big Fuss Gin won a gold medal in the gin category for its savory take on the classic london dry style, including 12 unique botanicals such as dill, celery and caraway.
Big Heart Gin won a silver medal in the gin category for its distinct floral notes including 14 botanicals such as lavender, chamomile, bergamot, and pink peppercorn.
The medal winning spirits are currently sold at liquor stores across Indiana in notable stores such as Total Wine, Big Red Liquors, Crown Liquors, Kahn’s Fine Wine & Spirits, Sobro Spirits. Both gin products have also been quickly adopted by the Indiana cocktail scene, showing up on menus at established bars and restaurants such as Patachou, The Fountain Room, Union 50, The Commodore, Bodhi, Craft One Half, and The Spot Tavern.
Affectionately called “Twin Gins”, the spirits are named after co-founders Dan and Jamie Fahrner’s twin 6 year old boys, Art (Big Heart) and Gus (Big Fuss). The Fahrners, along with friend and longtime chef, Nick Traeger, started Hi & Mighty as an homage to celebrating the gifts of life.
“Gin is such a celebratory spirit, and allows us to capture the essence of midwestern flavors ” says Dan Fahrner. “Our goal was to create unique spirits that bar programs would feel inspired by for their menus, and that home bartenders would have fun with for happy hour. We’re beyond thrilled to also count the best spirit judges in the world as fans!”
ABOUT HI & MIGHTY
In late 2021 the Indiana State Fair partnered with Hi & Mighty, a new cocktail and craft spirits distillery, to repurpose an out-of-use building on the fairgrounds. Hi & Mighty plans to open a bar and cocktail garden serving its spirits, as well as a concession-style restaurant. In the meantime, it has released Lemon Shake Up canned cocktail as well as its Twin Gin products: Big Heart Floral Gin and Big Fuss Savory Gin. Hi & Mighty is dedicated to celebrating the big (and small) gifts in life.
