In mid-March I was ordered to leave Uganda and return home to Indianapolis after serving nearly 2 years in the Peace Corps. COVID-19 made traveling in and out of countries more and more difficult so the agency decided it would be best to send all 7,000+ volunteers home. I was luckily just beginning to get the most homesick I had been and was starting to think of all the food I wanted to have again upon my return home but with bars and restaurants closing for good or limiting their services/menus in Indianapolis I worried about not getting everything I’d been craving for all that time. I’m sad to see that Brugge will be closing it’s Broad Ripple location, but happy they’re considering opening a new one! Crispy Bird and Natural Born Juicers unfortunately closed during my time abroad so I never got to go again, but I’m happy to see farmers markets are opening up again.
I already made it to Broad Ripple Bagel Deli upon my first week back. But I have yet to have Livery, Patachou or any of it’s affiliates, Yats, or Milktooth. Another favorite, Kilroy’s in Broad Ripple dm’d just yesterday me on Instagram after I had posted to my stories about me missing them and they wanted to let me know that they’re open for curbside service! As an IUB alum Kilroy’s breadsticks used to be all I ate some nights…okay, okay usually with a Water Long Island or Baltimore Zoo but you can’t go wrong with them. Eating them safe at home wasn’t as fun as having them out on the the patio with a drink while watching all the doggies go by but I’m happy I can still support them and other local businesses during these trying times.
