Food holidays are a favorite around here from Cinco De Mayo and National ‘Drink Wine’ Day to weekly events like Taco Tuesday. On the first Friday of June of each year comes National Donut Day. The popular celebration originates from a Chicago fundraiser by the Salvation Army in 1938 honoring members who served doughnuts to soldiers during World War 1. Over the years, bakeries across the country have made this day a special occasion for free donuts, speciality items, community involvement and more.
